Root cause: Evil.

Twin suicide bombings killed 155 people in Bagdad earlier in the week (strange how little notice it got). A brach of al Qaeda called “the Islamic State of Iraq” posted a statement proudly claiming responsibility, saying that its “martyrs” had “targeted the dens of infidelity.”

The “dens of infidelity” included 24 children on a bus leaving daycare.

Update: Another one. At least 91 lives ended and another 200 people maimed by a car bomb in a market in Pakistan as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrives in the country.

AP reports:

The bomb destroyed much of a market selling bangles, dresses and toys that was popular with women and children.

It collapsed buildings, including a mosque, and set shops on fire in an old part of the city crisscrossed with narrow alleys and clogged with stalls. Wounded people sat amid burning debris and body parts as a huge plume of gray smoke rose above the city.

And, somewhere, some “militants” view this as cause for celebration.
