Terror strikes Norway

Violence has erupted in Norway, as two terror attacks targeted a main government building as well as a Labor Party youth gathering on an island just south of the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

This morning, a massive bomb devastated Oslo’s main government building, which also houses Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg’s office. Thus far, two people have been reported dead in the blast. The prime minister escaped without harm.

Meanwhile, a terrorist dressed up as a police officer opened fire on a group of youths participating in an annual gathering of the prime minister’s Labor Party on Norway’s Utoeya Island. While no one has claimed responsibility for these attacks, many are speculating that Al-Qaeda is involved.

This story is still developing — please pray for the loved ones of the victims of this tragedy, that the injured will recover fully, and for the safety of all in this usually peaceful Scandinavian country.

Terrorists hit India

Three explosions rocked Mumbai’s business district yesterday, leaving 18 dead and scores more injured. This is the deadliest attack on India’s soil since 2008, when terrorists infiltrated Mumbai and killed 166 before being shot by security forces. Indian police hold the Indian Mujahideen, an Islamist terrorist group, responsible for the attacks.

Many people have argued that the source of Islamic terrorism is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or the U.S. presence in the Middle East. The latest vicious attacks in India prove this false. Islamist terrorists hate the West and all non-Muslims. They will not be satisfied until we are destroyed. Why else would they target India?

The only way to defeat radicalism in the Muslim world is to stand strong in the face of terrorism, and to pre-empt attacks by destroying terrorists’ ability to launch such attacks. Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, secularists — all people who do not subscribe to the oppressive and hateful belief system of radical Islam – are considered worthy targets by Jihadists. It is time that we all stand united to defend the world from an ideology that seeks to undermine our way of life.

Attack in Germany kills two U.S. servicemen

Two US airmen were killed in a U.S. army bus that came under fire in Frankfurt International Airport in Germany. The gunman was apparently a Kosovo national. As of now authorities have given no motive for the shooting, though one congressman said the incident looks like a terrorist attack.

President Obama spoke briefly to the press after the incident, and stating that the U.S. “will spare no effort in learning how this outrageous act took place.”

Bahrain army cracks down on protests

The latest news on the most recent Arab country mired in political upheaval and unrest.

Protesters who were camped in the square overnight described police swarming in through a cloud of eye-stinging tear gas. Many families were separated in the chaos. An Associated Press photographer saw police rounding up lost children and taking them into vehicles.

The Egypt-inspired protests began Monday as a cry for the country’s Sunni monarchy to loosen its grip, including hand-picking most top government posts, and open more opportunities for the country’s majority Shiites, who have long complained of being blocked from decision-making roles or key posts in the military.

But the uprising’s demands have steadily grown bolder. Many protesters called for the government to provide more jobs and better housing, free all political detainees and abolish a system that offers Bahraini citizenship to Sunnis from around the Middle East as a way to close the population gap with Shiites, who account for 70 percent of the population.

Israeli embassies close temporarily due to security risks

On the third anniversary of Hezbollah military commander’s assassination, Israeli embassies in Turkey on heightened alert.

The Foreign Ministry has temporarily closed some of its diplomatic missions abroad, including the Israeli Embassy in Ankara and the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, according to Turkish paper Hürriyet.

Turkish diplomatic sources said that while the diplomats were still working, the functions of the Israeli missions are temporarily suspended due to the risk of a possible terror attack linked to Hezbollah.
