It’s obvious why Israelis have concerns about Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ push this September for the U.N. to recognize a Palestinian state. But maybe Palestinian leadership should be concerned as well.
As Khaled Abu Toameh writes in his thoughtful Hudson New York op-ed:
It is obvious by now that the September initiative would not advance the cause of peace in the Middle East. On the contrary, it would further complicate matters for both Israel and the Palestinians, plunging the region into another vicious cycle of bloodshed and violence.
Abbas has raised the expectations of many Palestinians to a dangerous level, as many are now expecting to wake up in September to see a new state where they live in peace and security. But when that does not happen, and the Palestinians realize they have been once again sold false promises, they could turn to violence not only against Israel, but also against their leaders in the West Bank.
So the question remains — if he’s not going to get a state and could alienate his own people, what’s the point of this push?

What do you think?

I wish that the United Nations, the Arab league, the U.S. and Israel would loudly and often remind all of Islam and any other anti-Semites all about the treaty signed by all the above listed parties early in the 1900′s in which Israel was granted statehood again and what the original amount of land was. The Arabs that did not want to live in an Israeli state were supposed to be absorbed into the surrounding Arab nations. When they weren’t -90% of the land that was established after the fall of the Ottoman Empire that was to be for Israel was negotiated away to appease the Anti-Semites who didn’t appreciate being in an Israeli state. I think one reason why they think Israel shouldn’t exist is because most people don’t even know that Israel in the name of peace already gave all that land up. If Muslims should have a problem with anyone it should be with Jordan and any of the other countries that were given that land that failed to absorb Muslims in the 10% that was left to Israel. I also wish that people would refer to the birth of Israel in 1948 as the REbirth of Israel. Most Muslims and my ignorant and misguided countrymen from the U.S. are subject to propaganda by Islam and are ignorant to the actual history of Israel. I pray that my country does not screw up in failing to properly support Israel, because I read my Bible and I know how God feels about nations who go against His Blessed nation and how he punishes them. No matter what the Muslims do, God will make Israel victorious because He said He would. We have all witnessed miracles of victory for her and I pray they go on. My prayers are with you all. LMJ

Agreed and by the way if they did not have Israel and the rest of the non-Muslim world to hate they would continue to focus ALL of their hate against the differing sects within Islam instead of just a lot of hate. They are not a peaceful religion and culture. They are about bitterness and hate.
